Our mission with Homestead Exchange Network (H.E.N.) is to help individuals and families become more self-sufficient through a network of resources- homesteader helping homesteader.
What is a 'homestead'? It is defined as "any dwelling with its land and buildings where a family makes its home". No matter where you live, whether urban, rural or somewhere in between, you can provide for your family using the traditional heritage skills of days gone by!
Our primary purpose is to provide those willing to learn with a network of mentors willing to give of themselves with time, support, information, and, most importantly, livestock.
We invite YOU to join H.E.N. if... you have chickens, rabbits, goats, cows, ducks, or other livestock, knowledge and experience to offer, and/or gardening and food preservation skills to share; and if... you want to start providing for your family by raising chickens, rabbits, goats, cows, ducks, or other livestock, and/or gardening and food preservation!
We will do our best to match Resources and Applicants wanting to participate in the shared experience of homesteading. If you help provide a family with livestock or other homesteading materials, we ask you make a commitment to them for one year as they learn the ropes with their new endeavor.
If you receive help and supplies we ask that you, in turn, provide for another family within a years time period.
The idea for H.E.N. came about when a family with six children was provided three rabbit does to begin their own herd. By this fall they should have fertilizer for their garden, meat for their table and dogs, and pelts for crafts! Next year their production should be up enough to help start another family on the same path.
